Volunteer/Mentor Coordinator
To help the Program Manager recruit, train, and implement a comprehensive volunteer program for the Hope Gardens Family Center. This would include volunteers for after school tutoring, weekend events, and mentoring with children and their parents. This mentoring coordination would connect each mother at Hope Gardens with a mentor to assist the client in personal and professional development in order to facilitate a smooth transition to independence. Serves also as a liaison with the case management team of the case managers, children/youth director, job developer, and the learning center to implement the mentoring component of the individual treatment plans for each client.

• Recruit new mentors who will be able to support the vision of Hope Gardens and the Union Rescue Mission, by casting the vision and need for mentoring as part of the overall program.
• Recruit and organize volunteers that may be needed to oversee any ongoing program and special events that are connected to Hope Gardens
• Organize volunteers that will be used for afterschool tutoring, weekend events, renovation and upkeep of the facility, and additional opportunities in need of volunteers.
• Train new mentors to implement the mentoring curriculum that will give the support needed for clients.
• Screen mentors for their eligibility, as well as train the mentees as to the expectation of the mentoring relationship.

Qualifications:
4-year college degree or equivalent; 2-4 years progressively responsible, related experience; excellent planning, organizing, verbal/written and PC skills. The ideal candidate would have experience in the area of volunteer development and training. Must possess excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Must be able to mange multiple projects simultaneously. Experience in planning, policy design, and spreadsheet analysis is highly desirable. Strong detail orientation.

OVERVIEW:

REPORTS TO: Mekong Center Director
HOURS: 40 hours per week

A. Objectives:
1. To flesh out the mission, vision and values of Rainier Avenue Church (RAC) and Urban Impact (UI) as it relates to children and youth (newborn through grade 5) and their parents.
2. To direct an academic program for kids (grades K-5) that is family centered and fosters excitement for learning; providing programs that will result in measurable academic improvement in the students we serve.
3. To see families come to know Christ and engaged in a faith community.
4. To train and develop workers and leaders for children's ministry who represent the multi-ethnic diversity of our congregation and community
5. To involve children and families in congregational life and worship by fostering a spiritual, relational, and cross-cultural community among staff, families and volunteers.
6. To empower parents to nurture and minister to their children.
7. To challenge systems of institutional and systemic racism and poverty by offering holistic ministry programs via the Christian Community Development model.

B. Organizational Relationships:
1. Coordinate with Youth Pastor, Joe Alvarez, and other RAC Ministry Team Leaders
2. Coordinate with Urban Impact Education Team
3. Collaborate with Seattle Public School, specifically Graham Hill Elementary School's staff and teachers
4. Collaborate with Seattle Tutoring Coalition, KidReach, Supplemental Educational Services and other community partners.
5. Engage and involve Rainier Avenue Church parents

C. Qualifications:
1. Christian maturity with the experience, gifts, and skills necessary for the responsibilities of the position.
2. Experience working with kids in an educational context. The ability and desire to work with kids in a manner that will encourage their academic progress as well as improve their self-esteem.
3. Excellent ability to connect with and engage children in relationships and activities - with contagious energy and enthusiasm.
4. Demonstrates flexibility, adaptability, resiliency, teachability, paperwork management and meeting deadlines.
5. Experience working with multi-ethnic groups -- particularly Asian and/or ELL families -- and a commitment to ongoing training in: urban, cross-cultural, holistic ministry and undoing institutional racism.
6. Ability to lead, recruit, develop and manage a volunteer team
7. Able to implement a Christian Community Development approach that deals with family systems, racial and ethnic reconciliation, referral and advocacy, community organizing, and grassroots skill development.
8. Willingness to become a member of Rainier Avenue Church.

D. Functional Responsibilities
1. Cast vision for ministry to ethnically diverse children and families; develop and implement a strategic plan for family ministries in our congregation and community along with the Youth Pastor and the Director of Mekong Center.
2. Develop/implement curriculum for Sunday morning, Mekong Kids, and IDEA: Tutoring & Leadership programs.
3. Provide for appropriate staffing of the nursery for infants and toddlers during RAC worship services and other all-church activities.
4. Provide for appropriate staffing of children's worship (Godly Play) during RAC Sunday services for preschool through grade 5; promote on-going communication between teachers and families.
5. Facilitate smooth transition from grade 5 to youth ministry
6. Recruit volunteers and tutors from among personal network of relationships and RAC
7. Assist children and their parents to identify, develop and use their gifts and talents in appropriate ministries in the church and community.
8. Implement and maintain compliance with the Abuse Prevention Policy of Rainier Avenue Church and Urban Impact, coordinating with other Ministry Team Leaders.
9. May be requested to supervise, plan and/or oversee seasonal outreach opportunities including parties, fieldtrips, and other events for children and families as it relates to your specific areas, as Summer Academy
10. Responsible for managing site set-up, clean up, snack resources and preparations.
11. Oversee and coordinate the budget, facilities, and equipment used by children's programs and activities.
12. Attend school events to encourage children and build relationships with parents and school staff
13. Submit monthly attendance logs, stats and paperwork to our program partners (Other Urban Impact sites, Kid Reach, Graham Hill and other local Seattle Public Schools)

After School Program Coordinator Positions
This AmeriCorps position will assist with a K-8th grade after school program based in a church or faith-based organization, serving through mentoring, providing basic technology activities, coordinating volunteers, and providing overall support.

Teen Program Coordinator Positions
This AmeriCorps position will assist with a teen program based in a church or faith-based organization, serving through tutoring, mentoring, college prep, assisting with web-based academic enrichment elements, conducting community & parent outreach, assisting with community and school partnerships, planning college visits and workshops as directed, coordinating volunteers, and providing overall support.

We have a vital relationship with Fuller Theological Seminary and we have students and faculty in the church from various seminaries, universities and community colleges. This year we are celebrating one hundred twenty-five years of preaching the gospel and serving our community. We worship in a wonderful classic church building in the heart of Pasadena, between City Hall and Old Town. FBCP is a congregation with a long and rich heritage in Pasadena. We partner with American Baptist Churches in ministry in Los Angeles and around the world.

Paid Summer Missionary
Missionaries Needed:
Have you ever desired to be a part of a team focused on changing the whole person and the whole community through the saving message of Christ?

Mission Brenham needs college students and adults to serve as summer missionaries in Brenham, Texas, who love Jesus and obey the teachings of the Bible. Starting May 28th, paid missionaries will spend 10 and a half weeks developing relationships with children, youth and their families for the purpose of showing the truth about Jesus and how to be His disciple.

Missionaries use day camps for children and youth as an avenue to build relationships with young people and their families, and will learn what it takes to love, care for and live life with their neighbors as they spend time developing these relationships in urban communities. Missionaries will leave the summer with an understanding that there are people in their own towns who are lost and have never heard the story of redemption. Missionaries will also leave with the encouragement that they have the tools needed to be an active part of Kingdom building.
