Policy Regarding Minors
The UYWI National Conference is designed specifically for adult youth workers and organizational directors. Some program content and training curriculum may not be age-appropriate and is intended for the ministry development of adults who work with teenagers. In addition, there are restrictions imposed by Azusa Pacific University regarding the presence of unaccompanied minors on campus property.
UYWI is not an event for your youth group or student leadership team. We applaud the fact that you may be mentoring an older teenager for leadership. If you bring anyone under the age of 18, the following conditions apply:
Minors staying in APU Housing:
- APU requires everyone staying in housing to sign a liability/medical release upon check-in. Minors must have that form signed in advance by a parent or legal guardian. Contact Julie@uywi.org for a PDF of the form.
- No minors can stay in housing at APU without an adult in the same room*
All Minors on Campus:
- Minors can never be unaccompanied on campus at any time.
- UYWI highly recommends that you get a medical release form signed by the minor’s parent/guardian and keep it on you at all times**
*We respect the fact that some church policies prohibit adults and minors from being alone in a room together. Each dorm room holds two people. We can’t leave minors unsupervised, nor should we leave them on-on-one with an adult for accountability reasons. We regret the difficult conflict of policies that this creates. We recommend that groups in this situation find an off-campus hotel room that accommodates four people. (Click here for some recommendations.) We may have a limited number of four-person suites that could resolve this problem. Please call to check availability.
**This is in addition to the APU liability release referenced above. This would be your standard permission slip you use for camps and events.
