Enough – Part 1

This is Part 1 of a 3-Part Series  by Maina Mwaura

Recently, my niece Maiya and I went to her favorite store, The American Doll Store.  Maiya is a huge fan of this store and likes everything, which is always a problem when you live on a youth pastors salary.

I promised Maiya that she could get only one item.  After we arrived, she decided that one item wasn’t enough.  When I reminded her about the deal, she looked at me and said, “its never enough is it uncle Maina!”

I think a lot of us are just like Maiya in that enough is never enough.  For the next three weeks, we will be looking at the topic of enough. We will kick off the series underscoring the truth that God has provided us enough to lead according to His design.  We’ll follow with the resources God’s given us to lead and how we have enough. We’ll conclude the series with ways to teach our students to be grateful for the things God’s given them.

In Matthew 28:18-20, Jesus leaves us with a verse that many of us could probably recite by heart:

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

In a culture where enough just isn’t enough, Jesus provides three reminders of how enough truly is enough when it comes to what he has given us:

  • The power that God has given us is truly enough.  Inside of each of us is the power of Christ living within us to give us what we need in any situation.
  • God has given us complete authority to move in His name.  This means that anything that God has called us to has already been given to us.
  • God has given us enough power to last forever.  Jesus makes it very clear that He is with us to the very end.   This means that Jesus power is not just enough for today but that it is enough until He returns.
