SUMMARY:RELOAD Lab Richmond, CA (Bay Area)
DESCRIPTION: You're Losing Us taught by Corey Rose and Glenda Jackson More than 2/3 of church-going young adults drop out of church after High School graduation. We'll look at the top reasons for this exodus and look at strategies that work to prevent losing this generation. The things that "work" will surprise you. Find out if your Ministry Structure\, Attitude towards Students\, Preaching Content\, and Actions - can expect drop-outs\, or "stickiness." From Dropping Out to Carrying it Out taught by Corey Rose and Glenda Jackson Low expectation churches make it too easy for young adults to drop out. You'll learn to: 1. Change the very nature your young people (think of Paul's transformation\, David's\, your own) by developing a straightforward process that moves people through the stages of spiritual growth. 2. Develop a purpose statement that not only describes your stages of growth\, but how to get there. Provide direction for your young people and the infrastructure that will help them grow. PLUS some Essential FREE Ministry Resources: • The INFILTRATE School Campus Strategy • Potential job descriptions for your youth leaders • Youth Leader scheduling to prevent burnout • Connecting the right youth leader to the right job in your youth ministry Presenters: Schedule: 8:30am - 9:00am Registration & Breakfast 9:00am - 9:30am Welcome & Worship 9:30am - 10:30am Session 1: You're Loosing Us 10:30am - 10:45am Break 10:45am - 12:00pm Session 2: From Dropping Out to Carrying it Out 12:00pm RELOAD Lab Ends

SUMMARY:RELOAD Lab Lexington
DESCRIPTION: Workshops Feeding Father Hunger: Understanding And Ministering To The Fatherless Generation taught by David Cozart\, Fayette County Fatherhood Initiative Oftentimes both kids and adults are unaware of the lifelong effects that an absent father has in the life of a child. The emotional response of the fatherless can be linked to poverty\, high school dropout rates\, crime\, drug use\, and teenage pregnancy. The fatherless live a lifestyle living with a father they don’t see\, while filling the empty space with painful outburst and pseudo-comfort realities. This Workshop will provide you insights for helping youth to discover their identity\, pinpoint side effects that are gripping them from growth\, and discover practical mentoring approaches to free their souls and not block their blessings. Discipleship: An Effective Method of Mentoring Urban Youth taught by Kendra Osborn\, Amachi Central Kentucky As urban youth continually endure the adversities of single-parent homes\, unsafe neighborhoods and failing municipal systems\, the need for nurturing and consistent adult relationships is exceedingly apparent. Discipleship is one form of mentoring that can transform the relationships you have with your youth and subsequently transform their relationship with Jesus. Come and learn from practitioners in the urban youth ministry field who will share stories of success as well as give practical guidelines for discipleship. Prophetic Ministry taught by Marcus Patrick\, Urban Impact & Kayla Hurst\, Broadway Christian Church In his book\, Toward a Prophetic Youth Ministry: Theory and Praxis in Urban Context\, this biblically-based\, holistic model for urban youth ministry flows out of the conversation between Jesus and an expert of the law where Jesus answered him\, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and\, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself." Schedule 8:30 - 9:00 am Registration and Breakfast 9:00 - 9:25 am Worship\, Welcome\, Announcements 9:35 - 10:50 am Workshop 1 & 2 11:00 - 12:15 pm Workshop 3 12:25 -1:00 pm Next steps & Day ends

SUMMARY:Phoenix: Pastoring on the 13th Floor (Part 2: Sanctity of Human Life)
DESCRIPTION: Presenter: Aaron Dailey - Pure Path & Warren H. Stewart Jr. - Church of The Remnant 4-Part Series Description: When you enter the elevator of a high rise building you will seldom find the button for the 13th floor. It is because of fear\, superstition\, or ignorance\, that we pretend it doesn’t exist. The “13th floor” issues of abortion\, sexual abuse\, sex trafficking\, and the sanctity of human life have become a widely unrecognized reality\, accompanied by a basic fear of people\, to honestly address these issues. Pure Path has developed creative resources along with sermon outlines to give tools to Pastor’s and church leader’s who are bold enough to address “13th Floor” issues. They are committed to coming along side of your local community of believers as you work to confront these issues head on. All of these resources are free of charge to you. This training goes along with free downloadable resources that you can use in your youth ministry. Part 2\, Feb 28 2012: Sanctity of Human Life We all have presuppositions i.e. the basic way an individual looks at life. A worldview is the mental grid through which we see the world; it comprises our set of individual beliefs about the most important issues of life. According to the Barna Group only 9% of all American adults have a biblical worldview. Even among “born again” adults\, the most recent stats show that 19% of them have a biblical worldview. The way we see God is what defines the way we view life and the value we put on others. In this training we will talk about what effects our world view has on the loss of the sanctity of human life. We will also be looking at the mission field that is created by the loss of the sanctity of human life. We will also discover how the Gospel compels us to call our young people to live under God’s rule and it is only under his rule that we will they see the value of life. Part 3-4 (Dates TBA): Abortion\, and Sex Trafficking In the coming months will cover Abortion\, Sanctity of Human Life\, and Sex Trafficking (Dates TBA) Cost: $10 includes dinner Pre-Registration Deadline: After pre-registration is closed we welcome you to register at the door. Cancellation Policy: If you cannot attend\, your registration is transferable to another person\, but it is not refundable. Questions: If you have any questions\, call us at 800-734-8994 Ext: 0

Explore how youth workers can journey with teens as the power of God transforms\, true forgiveness occurs\, and the process of healing is cultivated. Glean practical tools and research for cultivating resiliency and walking out 2 Corinthians 4: 7-18 with youth.

SUMMARY:Phoenix: Pastoring on the 13th Floor (Part 1: Sexual Abuse)
DESCRIPTION: Presenter: Aaron Dailey\, Pure Path 4-Part Series Description: When you enter the elevator of a high rise building you will seldom find the button for the 13th floor. Part 1 Dec 13\, 2011: Sexual Abuse One in four women and one in six men will be sexually assaulted at some point in their lifetimes. These stats are probably underestimates. Sexual assault is one of the most under-reported crimes\, according to the FBI\, because fear and/or embarrassment keeps most victims from reporting what happened. 5% of sexual assault victims are under age 12\, 29% are ages 12 to 17\, and 80% are under age 30. The highest-risk years are ages 12 to 34\, and girls ages 16 to 19. If you are pastoring Sexual abuse is not just something you can ignore. In this training we will talk about what effects sexual abuse is having on our culture\, the disgrace that our youth are facing who have been abused\, and the power of the Gospel to free them from disgrace\, and the responsibility we have as pastors to those who are abused. Part 2-4 (Dates TBA): Abortion\, Sanctity of Human Life\, and Sex Trafficking Stay tuned for event date announcements for the rest of the series. Cost: $10 includes dinner Pre-Registration Deadline: After pre-registration is closed we welcome you to register at the door. Cancellation Policy: If you cannot attend\, your registration is transferable to another person\, but it is not refundable. Questions: If you have any questions\, call us at 800-734-8994 Ext: 0

This breakout will explore how to move away from a consumer-centric model of discipleship by intentionally creating spaces with a value for risk. Sticky Faith: Instilling in Your Students a Faith That Lasts taught by Kara Powell\, Fuller Youth Institute\, Eric Johnson and Curt Gibson\, Lake Ave. Community Foundation Why is it that over 40% of your students will ditch their faith after they leave your ministry? This seminar takes a practical look at research conducted by the Fuller Youth Institute on students across the U.S. It unearths some of the toxic myths your teenagers believe about the gospel\, the church\, their family\, and your ministry that cause them to shelve their faith. You’ll leave with all sorts of practical ideas you can use immediately to help students stick with both your ministry and their faith for the long haul. Building Blocks of Urban Youth Ministry (First Two Years) taught by Larry Acosta\, Urban Youth Workers Institute & Greg Moder\, Patten University If you’re new to youth ministry or need a fresh start\, this one’s for you! You may be asking questions like: Where do I begin? What is most essential? What are the best ways to build a volunteer team? How can I better connect with youth in the church and beyond the four walls? Learn a step-by-step process for mapping out your first two years in urban youth ministry. Live Out Your Strengths taught by Scot Burbank\, Biola University You were designed to live life to the fullest. Do you know how? This seminar is designed to help you begin to recognize and awaken the natural talents\, passions and dreams that lie within you. Empowering Young People as Agents of Change taught by Lina Thompson\, World Vision- Community Youth Development Director Young people have within them the experiences\, skills\, perspectives and knowledge that\, when partnered with adults\, can lead to exciting and innovative community transformation. Come be part of an important conversation about this approach we call Community Youth Development and learn some of the practical ways to integrate this approach into your programming philosophy. World Vision staff will share a model for youth empowerment and community transformation that is at work in Southern California and in other communities around the country. RELOAD WORKSHOPS (Saturday Only) Core Values of a Youth Worker: Laying A Foundation For Ministry taught by John Park\, New Life Community of LA You’ve heard it said that “Values are caught\, not taught.” Is there a set of core values that every urban youth worker should live through and live out? If so\, what are they and how should we integrate them into our life\, ministry and youth ministry? This session will help you to find a foundational theology on which to build values for ministry that will help you stand strong against the tests and adversities of life. Feeding Father Hunger: Understanding And Ministering To The Fatherless Generation taught by Pete Conteras & Jeremy Cross\, 2nd Mile Urban Ministries Oftentimes both kids and adults are unaware of the lifelong effects that an absent father has in the life a child. Churched but Unchurched taught by Khristi L. Adams\, APU Associate Campus Pastor The term “churched” describes a person taught or belonging to a church. The term “unchurched” is often used in reference to a type of behavior displayed that is not consistent with the ideals of the institutional church. The majority of 21st century youth are perceived as unchurched because their culture\, values and ideals are not consistent with that of their predecessors. However\, there is no such thing as a universal definition of churched. This workshop will layout of the tension between the two definitions and how each youth ministry should center on balancing the two. Building Blocks of Urban Youth Ministry (First Two Years) taught by Larry Acosta\, Urban Youth Workers Institute Incarnational Ministry taught by Daniel Lai/ Young Life Junior High Adult Leader Track Call of Duty: Building Assets Every Student Needs taught by Ray & Shavonne Barela\, Victory Outreach Chino\, CA This track will teach how to build sustainable assets for Junior High Students and interface with realities without being controlled by them. As a youth worker\, our relational time with students is minimal; therefore\, it is important for us to focus on the right things. Kingdom ministry to students shifts our efforts to play it forward by teaching them to spend less time trying to control problems and troubles…in an exchange to visit their capabilities in strength and potential. Students must learn the value in not being a joystick to the challenges in their lives. How to do Research that Produces Evidence of Success taught by Les Harman\, Biola University This workshop will provide a hands-on\, practical approach to conducting various forms of marketing research that speak directly to creating evidence of success. Topics will include a basic overview of how to develop the right research objectives\, conduct interviews\, moderate focus groups and develop survey questions that will produce data that shows various points of success with established ministry and/or program goals. Several examples from Urban Strategies' evidence of success program will be presented to substantiate the teaching. Women in Urban Youth Ministry taught by Khristi L. Adams\, APU Associate Campus Pastor Women and men alike are caring for communities of faith in urban environments. In spite of this\, women are seldom the public faces of urban youth ministries. This workshop will wrestle with the nature of women in Christian leadership and urban church ministry. Teen Track: A Facebook Without Love (2-Part) taught by Mark Anthony Chase\, Pasadena Church In years past\, sex\, alcohol\, and drugs were a few of the leading influencers that “helped” teens feel as if they were gaining ground relationally with other students. When these were coupled with media and music\, it seemed like adults were always 10 steps away from a youth’s daily reality. In today’s world\, teens can connect visually without ever having to confront who they really are! In fact\, through social media avenues\, teens can bypass life – yet still feel alive and in the mix! This session will remind students of who they really are\, and how loving themselves first will help them lead their lives into a personal book they can face forever. SUMMARY:Webinar: Mission Critical: Transforming a Generation One School at a Time - Jeremy Del Rio
DESCRIPTION: Join The Well to participate in this\, and many other\, monthly webinars with veteran urban youth ministry leaders. Mission Critical: Transforming a Generation One School at a Time Jeremy Del Rio\, Co-Founder and Executive Director\, 20/20 Vision for Schools Nationally\, the average graduate from a low-income school district reads at an eight grade level. Yet fewer than 50% of students actually graduate from those districts. Should we reasonably expect them to be transformed by the written word of God if they are ill-prepared to read and understand that Word? This educational inequity has been called our nation's greatest injustice and the civil rights issue of our day. Is there room for urban youth ministries to begin leading on this issue? Explore how churches\, parachurches\, and youth ministries are transforming public education within a single generation of students by activating congregations\, adopting schools\, and becoming answers to prayer. No longer limited to school prayer and Bible Clubs\, redefine how your youth ministry engages public schools and empowers students to become who God has called them to be.
