#10 “Afflicted But Not Crushed: Building Resiliency in Youth” by Amy Pearson

  1.  Research tells us young people are created to connect. However, the crisis of American childhood is a lack of connectedness: close relationships with other people and a deep connection to moral and spiritual meaning.
  2. To make a moral impact on mid-adolescents, you provide powerful and personable connections with adults whom they can admire. Those adults can then inspire the teens to make moral sense of the social confusion of their surroundings.
  3. To help youth through a transformation, you have to deal with your own stuff. You can’t take youth somewhere that you are not willing to go.
  4. Teach the power of re-framing. We are often slave to our own expectation.
