You’re So Creative!!!

Albert Einstein once said: “Our imagination is our preview of coming attractions.”

Creativity.  Some say you either have it or you don’t.  I am convinced that you have it.  The gift of creativity is not the possession of a few people.  The ability to be creative belongs to everyone, including you.  Proverbs 8:12 says, “I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions.”  We were created in God’s image, which means we were given His ability to be creative.

Children are a great example of God’s creativity.  They are out of the box thinkers.  Research says that over 90% of all five year olds’ ideas are original.  Have you ever put a crayon in the hands of a child? Their imagination has no boundaries. I’m sure you are wondering what this has to do with you and your ability to be creative.

The older we get, the more we forget that we were once the kids with the wild strawberry, piglet pink or blue bell crayon in our hands.  It is time to brighten the light bulb of creativity in our lives. Let me give you some simple, but life changing strategies that will enhance your creativity.

1. Never Stop Asking Questions

Studies show that the average four year old asks 437 questions a day. We must develop a passion to know about this youth culture and everything that exists in it by asking the right questions.  Seek out other programs in your city and around the country, and ask them about the pros and cons of working with and ministering to young people.

2. Develop a Creative Team

I cannot stress enough the importance of having the right people around you, people who think outside the box.  There is nothing better than team creativity. Proverbs 15:22 encourages us concerning the importance of teamwork.  You must set aside regular time to brainstorm with others who have a creative heart for the program, fresh ideas, and who are not offended when their ideas are not used.

3. Establish a Creative Environment

This is one of the most important ingredients to igniting creativity.  The right environment is very healthy for brainstorming and coming up with new ideas. It can be a conference room or the food court at the mall. It can be almost any place, but wherever it is, makes sure it’s a place that ignites excitement for creativity.

4. Document Creative Ideas

Habakkuk 2:2 says, “Write the vision down.” Make it a habit to write down every idea that comes into your head, no matter how wild or outrageous it may seem. Write down the idea when you don’t need it, so it will be there when you do need it.

When we were children, we were masters of creativity, using such things as a ball, a stick, or a piece of string.  That same creativity still lives in you today to help you make a difference in the lives of the next generation.
