Beautiful Calling

Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder…

This simply means that people find different things beautiful.  For instance, take a Pablo Picasso painting.  One person may think it is the most beautiful piece of art they have ever seen.  Another person may look at it and think looks like a mistake, way too confusing to be ever called beautiful.  When it comes to God and those he calls into ministry he makes no mistakes. He makes all things beautiful.

Beautiful Defined:  all that is pleasing to the senses or mind; of a very high standard or excellence.

When God looks at you and the calling he has placed on your life, when he looks at this generation of young people, what he sees is beauty. It does not matter if they are male or female, young or old. He is not looking at what is on the outside only to determine our beauty.  He is looking at how we were made in his image to determine our beauty.

Colossians 1:16-17 16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

You see, true beauty is not about size, hair, clothes or facial features.  It is about how God made you from the inside out. This same principle applies to the calling that God has placed on your life and the vision he has placed in your heart to minister to young people.

When it comes to vision, we will know what God has put in our hearts to do, before we know how he intends to bring it to pass.

“How” is never a problem with God when he puts a vision in your heart.  He goes to work to make sure it happens.

Psalm 78:70-72 70 He chose David his servant and took him from the sheep pens; 71 from tending the sheep he brought him to be the shepherd of his people Jacob, of Israel his inheritance  72 And David shepherded them with integrity of heart; with skillful hands he led them.”

All I have to do is be obedient to him and his word.  Where there is obedience there is grace to carry it out his will. We are not responsible for figuring out how to make the vision come to pass.  Just do what you know to do and what you can do and leave the rest up to God.

Philippians 2:13 “For it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.”

God’s work, done in God’s way and in God’s timing, will always be successful.  He wants us to see others, the way he saw us, as diamonds in the rough. That is our part.

Diamonds don’t come out of the ground looking clean, pretty, and shiny. They are rough, dirty, and look nothing like beauty. But if you just keep polishing it and don’t give up, that which looks so ugly on the outside, so rough on the outside, will turn into one of the most beautiful things known to man – a diamond.

The same principal apples to our young people:

  • They might not look too good on the outside right now
  • They might be really rough around the edges
  • They may be covered in sin and shame

We must keep polishing them with the love of God, the word of God, and don’t stop or don’t give up until they begin to shine, and become the beautiful thing God always intended for them to be.

Romans 8:37-39 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
