Empowering Youth – Lot318

Letty is currently enrolled in the UYWI Los Angeles 90 Degrees cohort and is the Director of LOT318 which stands for “Loving Others in Truth” from the verse 1 John 3:18. LOT318 exists to minister to at risk youth and their community by empowering them to see their worth and purpose in this world. They accomplish this by holding various events and service opportunities, to open their eyes to the world around them. Letty has served in full-time ministry for 16 years and the last 8 years with at risk youth in their community.  The issues that the kids she serves face include apathy, lack of motivation, absent fathers, gang involvement and a lack of value for education. She meets with youth and challenges them to become better students and to have better attitudes in their homes and community.

Youth Impact – Marco

My name is Marco. Growing up, my life was hard. I was doing drugs at 14 and didn’t have a lot of friends and no one wanted to accept me for who I was. I joined the La Jolla Street Gang, got involved in drugs and violence.

When Lot318 brought a service team to my neighborhood and showed The Passion of the Christ movie, I received Christ into my life. I found something better than drugs and I began to serve others instead of always thinking about myself. Lot318 showed me love when no one else gave me that. They walked with me as I made mistakes and they helped me in school and at home.

Today, I live my life as an example to those around me, I have a Bible Study that meets in my house every week and I am involved in planning and leading a High School Service team – just like the one that God used to change my life. I am also Lot318 Homework Club Program Director and a full-time student pursuing my welder’s license.  I’m so thankful that Lot318 came to my community and my neighborhood.

What are some key nuggets you’ve received from the 90 Degrees Certification Program so far?

“The 90 Degrees program has taught me that it’s ok to set boundaries.  I am reminded that I cannot do it all and I need to surround myself with people that can do well what I do poorly.  But the biggest thing I’ve learned during this program is the importance of “giving myself permission” to take care of my soul.  I have found a healthier way of doing life that is more balanced and God focused. I am grateful to the 90 Degrees program for opening my eyes to new things and for showing me and reminding me that giving myself permission to refuel is what God wants from me.”
