SoCal Networkers Gather

The Southwest National Network Director, Mike Devito host a yearly 24 hour retreat for people who gather youth workers in the Southern California Region. UYWI SoCal was invited this year to collaborate on hosting the event. We were able to bring a handful of leaders who collaborate in urban areas. We had representation from CLUE California, denominational network leaders, people who work in schools, Youth for Christ, and many others. It was a great meeting of the minds on Networking. The suburban and urban worlds collided and began to learn from each other. Our discussion led us to a four barriers that all the networkers face. These are the four barriers that we determined hold people back from networking.

1. Diversity – diversity in race, theological differences, economic differences, denominational differences and differences in philosophy of ministry.
2. Time – we all are busy people and time is a valuable resource and getting together takes away from that resource
3. Pride – people who think that they do not need others because they know everything
4. Relationships – people have lost trust in people or do not know people

Q: Do you agree that these are the core issues that keep people from gathering networks?

Yes. There are others, but these are some of the “biggies.” Were you able to think through solutions for these barriers???

Yes, we began the brainstorming and i will try and post one of them tomorrow. I will then be posting one of the barriers with solutions each week. What are some of the other barriers that you can think of or have experienced?
