Urban Youth Ministry Certificate

Fuller’s Center for Youth and Family Ministry is getting more and more excited about their next Urban Youth Ministry Certificate cohort, set to begin in March 2008. UYWI has a number of spots reserved for this program. Through our online form, you can inquire, ask questions, and connect with Kirk Scott, Director of Learning Communities, to better your opportunity of acceptance.

Applications are due November 15—that’s less than two months away! Check out and apply at the CYFM website at https://www.cyfm.net/certificate.php. Prospective students will find all of the details, as well as links to the application, online. As I think you all know, Fuller’s CYFM offers about an 80% scholarship to each student, so each youth worker gets thousands of dollars’ worth of training at a fraction of the cost.

In addition to the immense practicality of this innovative program, CYFM students speak of valuing the sense of community built with other cohort members as well as the way they learn to apply theology to their urban contexts, with an end result of deeper ministry. Here are some student quotes on the impact of this program:

“We are facing an escalating crisis with the continued growth of a generation of young people who often feel misunderstood and neglected. With these classes I am becoming more prepared to handle the lost dreams of kids and return them to a community with brand new dreams.”
– Kirk Davis, Area Director for Urban Young Life, San Francisco CA

This program is about practical ministry. The impact on my ministry has been tremendous! I am able to have more engaging conversations with our youth and provide additional leadership training to my volunteer staff.”
– LeWana Britt, Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Indianapolis IN

“I often find myself in circumstances with students where they need so much more than ‘just a bible study.’ Like Cynthia—a sophomore who grew up on welfare, so she’s not used to having regular meals, or Davon, who was a foster kid and has a lot of difficulty trusting people. I love these students and have a desire to see them become leaders at their campus and in our city. This training has been incredibly helpful, beneficial, and empowering.”
Maite Rodriguez-Caballero, InverVarsity Cal State LA, Los Angeles CA
