You Make Things Happen

A personal account from a faithful and generous UYWI financial supporter.

In February, I was blessed to have hosted in my home, the first ever Urban Youth Workers Institute Women’s Urban Youth Workers Speaker Training Retreat. This event was led by two outstanding speakers Noemi Chavez, Pastor at 7th Street Church in Long Beach, and Luma Haddad, Area Director, Young Life, San Diego.

In addition, there were sixteen promising young women who love Jesus who were invited from around the country to participate in a time of sharing, worship, teaching, and prayer. I was impressed by the character, poise, confidence, and spiritual maturity of the young women in this group, all of whom, currently serve in some capacity in urban ministry.

"I was impressed and encouraged to learn of the profound influence that UYWI is having on urban leaders across the country as each woman shared how she has been impacted by UYWI."

The purpose of this speaker training retreat was to pour into these women and build-up their already impressive speaking skills.  Throughout the days of the speakers retreat they became more prepared and equipped in their speaking skills so that they may share Jesus Christ with more young people in large venues in the future, and leverage their impact for the kingdom.

Following each of the speaker’s presentations, the group would provide feedback to one another so that they could help to provide positive criticism and share their thoughts on the presentation. The young women eagerly received feedback on their presentations and were deeply grateful for the opportunity to hone their skills as “Iron sharpens iron.”  They also bonded and built new friendships as they spent time together at a giant slumber party and were able to share their lives and joy in the Lord.  I was grateful for the opportunity to spend time with and learn from such amazing and God loving women.

I was impressed and encouraged to learn of the profound influence that UYWI is having on urban leaders across the country as each woman shared how she has been impacted by UYWI.

Larry and the Urban Youth Workers Institute team are cultivating and training passionate followers of Jesus who are authentic, loving and courageous.

I am honored to support UYWI and excited about the next generation of women who care deeply about urban youth, and who are growing in to their calling as leaders and pastors proclaiming God’s love for this world with truth and grace.
